Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
Guidelines for fair bandwidth consumption, hosting server conduct, domain usage, and network security across all Afrinet infrastructure.
Last updated: February 2026
Purpose of this Policy: This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") defines acceptable practices regarding the use of Afrinet's wholesale network backbones, Fibre & LTE connectivity, cloud servers, cPanel reseller web hosting, and domain registration infrastructure. Resellers are responsible for ensuring that their End Customers adhere to these rules.
1. General Principles
Afrinet is dedicated to providing high-speed, reliable, and secure digital services across South Africa. To maintain network integrity, prevent IP blacklisting, and protect all users from malicious activities, all use of our services must be lawful, ethical, and in compliance with this AUP.
2. Broadband & Fixed Wireless Fair Usage Policy (FUP)
While our uncapped Fibre products are unshaped and designed for continuous everyday streaming, browsing, gaming, and business operations:
- Network Integrity: Continuous, automated bulk traffic that intentionally floods network interfaces or degrades node capacity for neighboring users is prohibited.
- Fixed LTE & 5G AUP Tiers: Fixed LTE/5G packages are subject to carrier-defined fair usage thresholds (such as 150GB, 300GB, or 450GB monthly AUP pools). Once a threshold is reached, speeds may be throttled to 2Mbps or 4Mbps until the next calendar billing cycle, as specified by the underlying network operator (MTN, Vodacom, or Telkom).
- Resale to Third Parties: Resellers may provision lines for End Customers, but unauthorized sub-leasing of individual residential lines to multiple separate properties (e.g. unlicensed neighborhood Wi-Fi distribution) is not permitted under residential packages.
3. Web Hosting & Cloud Server Conduct
Users of our cPanel Reseller Hosting and Cloud VPS infrastructure must observe the following standards:
- Zero Tolerance for Spam / Bulk Email: Sending unsolicited commercial email (UCE/SPAM), harvesting email addresses, or hosting software designed to generate spam is strictly forbidden. All outbound mail must comply with POPIA, CAN-SPAM, and have verified SPF/DKIM records.
- Malware & Phishing: Hosting malicious software, credential-harvesting phishing pages, ransomware, keyloggers, or command-and-control scripts will result in immediate server account termination without prior notice.
- Resource Abuse on Shared Nodes: Running intensive background processes on shared cPanel hosting nodes (such as cryptocurrency miners, continuous torrent clients, or open proxy networks) that compromise server stability is prohibited.
- Intellectual Property: Hosting pirated software (warez), unauthorized copyrighted multimedia, or counterfeit goods violates South African copyright law and this policy.
4. Domain Registration & DNS Standards
- Cybersquatting & Impersonation: Registering domain names intending to impersonate financial institutions, government entities, or trademark holders for fraudulent purposes is strictly prohibited.
- Registry Compliance: All .co.za domain registrations are subject to the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) regulations administered by the .ZA Domain Name Authority (ZADNA).
- Open DNS Resolvers: Resellers configuring custom DNS servers must ensure they do not operate as open recursors vulnerable to DNS amplification attacks.
5. Network Security & System Prohibitions
The following activities are strictly prohibited across all Afrinet IP ranges and servers:
- Unauthorized network scanning, port probing, or vulnerability exploitation of external networks.
- Initiating or participating in Denial of Service (DoS/DDoS) attacks.
- Forging IP packet headers or spoofing routing data.
- Attempting to bypass authentication or gain root access to unauthorized server nodes.
6. Violations, Enforcement & Abuse Reporting
Afrinet reserves the right to investigate suspected violations of this policy. Upon confirmation of an abuse incident, Afrinet may:
- Issue a warning and require immediate removal of infringing material within 12 hours.
- Temporarily suspend the specific IP, domain, hosting account, or broadband line.
- In cases of severe malicious activity (such as ransomware hosting or DDoS origination), immediately terminate the offending service and notify law enforcement authorities.
